Now Offering Float Trips!
Float Trips.
There are some amazing rivers in Northern California that are best fly fished from a drift boat. I’m pleased that I can now guide you on these trips. You can sit back in my brand new spacious 14ft raft, sipping on your favorite beverage while I row the boat and get you on fish.
There are year round opportunities for big native Rainbow trout in the Lower Sacramento River and in the winter we can chase Steelhead on the Trinity and eventually on the Klamath when it recovers from dam removal.
See the details for each trip below.
The Float Water.
-
Lower Sacramento River
A special river that holds big resident Rainbow Trout that can be caught anytime of the year. From Redding to Red Bluff, the water runs cold during the hottest days of summer.
-
Trinity River
Anglers come for adult Winter Steelhead on these pristine waters. The fish start arriving in good numbers in December through April.
-
Klamath River
The historic dam removal in 2024 has placed this river on hold as it heals from a century of damage. There are many signs of hope, but we’re in a wait in see pattern while we look for the return of the steelhead and salmon. Look for updates on trips down this amazing river!

Walk & Wade Trips.
Let’s go on an adventure together! We’ll hike back into water that few will ever see, so the fish are less pressured and we’ll have the river to ourselves. Very rarely do we see another angler.
We’ll be fly fishing primarily with a mono-rig leader system so we can do everything from tight line nymphing (euro) as well as indicator nymph, strip streamers, dry-dropper and even dry flies. It allows us to take the tight line advantage to all the major tactics and get more fish in the net.
I put a big emphasis on teaching, so bring your questions and plan on refining your cast. Don’t know where the fish are feeding or what’s going on with the bugs? Lets dig in it. I want everyone to leave a better angler and have a story and photos to tell.

The Water.
-
Upper Sacramento River
There are nearly 30 miles of pristine river holding some of the best quality fish in California. The fish are bright, they’re big and they fight hard. Bring your a-game chasing wild fish nymphing and stick around for the evening hatches where the fish will take dries up on top.
-
Pit River
If you’re looking for the ultimate tight-lining river, this is it. This system is extremely healthy, holding huge numbers of fish per river mile. It has pocket water, runs and riffles that can be dissected under tight line. A great place to refine your tuck cast, build your confidence and catch big numbers of fish.
-
McCloud River
The home of the world renownd McCloud Rainbows. The glacial aqua marine water, dense forest and hard fighting rainbows are the experience of a lifetime.
The Accommodations.
If you’re travelling and need a place to stay, I highly recommend you find a riverside cabin from Mt. Shasta Vacation Rentals. They’re a local company that manages local homes. They have a huge selection that include everything from river front cabins to big homes that can sleep the whole extended family.
