McCloud River

Guided Fly Fishing Trips

The Holy Water

The aquamarine waters of the McCloud are legendary. The native Rainbow trout here have been distributed all over the world. The deep canyon is an oasis with the river carving it’s way around big granite boulders.

This is a somewhat technical fishery. The fish hold around structure in the fast pocket water and deep in the pools below runs. You need to have really good drag free drifts to get them.

There is a solid chance of finding brown trout and in the fall swinging a streamer through deep pools can attract big brown trout.

Bring a wading staff and a good pair of wading boots so we can wade into the best positions and get fish in the net.

Location
Below McCloud Reservoir at Ash Camp downstream to Ah Di Nah Campground and the Conservancy.

Tactics
Tight line nymphing the pocket water and runs.
Streamers in the deep slow pools can turn browns.
Dries can crush when a hatch is coming off.
