Lower Sac River

Guided Fly Fishing Trips

Year round fishing

The Lower Sacramento is a large river best fished from a drift boat. The water is drawn from the bottom of Lake Shasta keeping the water cold year round. This consistent tailwater offers year round opportunities for big and very hard fighting resident rainbows.

Nymphing is the game and we’ll be running long triple fly rigs to target fish sitting at the bottom of drop-offs and in the riffles. We’re generally fishing 30ft from the boat throwing stack mends for perfect dead drifts and fast hooksets. These fish have seen all the flies and their takes can be light, so be ready to set on the smallest of twitches.

When the salmon start running, the egg bite is another hatch that can’t be missed. When the eggs are on, the fish will gorge themselves making this one of the season’s highlights. Typically this peaks in October.

We’ll be floating in my brand new NRS Slipstream 142 raft that has lots of room for 2 anglers. We’ll have a premium sack lunch and your beverage of choice.
