Trinity River

Guided Fly Fishing Trips

Steelhead!

The Trinity is a major tributary of the Klamath that runs cold and clear. The fish here top out at 5-6lb typically, but they can be numerous so it’s possible to land multiple adults in a day if you time it right. There are also numerous “half-pounders” that are first year steelhead typically less than 20 inches.

They being so far upriver, they tend to fish like regular trout. So we nymph for them using 2 or 3 fly rigs under an indicator. From the raft, we cover lots of water and find the fish as they’re moving up river.

Location
Lewiston to Junction City

Tactics
Side drifting deep under an indicator with 2 or 3 fly rigs.
Streamers can be swung on a Spey rod further downstream.
I’ve seen steelhead eat a dry fly, but it’s uncommon.
