Caddis Dredger Fly Tying Tutorial

The Dredger is a pattern I came across in my early days of just trying everything I could get my hands on. It’s big, it’s heavy and it’s slim so it makes for a fantastic point fly. It gets the rig down and keeps it tight in big water and the fish just gobble it.

If you’re not a tyer, you can pick these up hand tied by me.

The Recipe:
Hook: #10 Firehole 520 Jig Hook
Bead: 3.5mm Driftstone Slotted Tungsten Bead, Matte Black
Thread: Semperfli 12/0 Classic Waxed thread, Black
Wire: .5mm (.020in) Semperfli Lead Free Wire
Dubbing: Semperfli Mint Green Ice Dub. Choose any color to match the caddis in your river. I like Copper/tan, Rose and a white/cream
Casing: Thin Skin, Natural Mottled Bustard
Rib: Semperfli .2mm Brassie Green Wire
Hackle: Troutline Black Super Spike Dubbing
Head Cement: Loon Water-based
