Jig Streamer
Inspired by Troutflies’ Jig Sculpzilla and a classic Squirrel Leech, I tie these on a #8 2X long Driftstone Jig streamer and a 4.6mm tungsten bead. This streamer can be fished effectively both upstream, across and or swung downstream. My preference is to fish it upstream and jig it down and around structure.
The big hackle and maribou head pulses a ton between strips and jigs which trigger eats and the inverted jig hook will usually set solidly in the roof of their mouth leading to more fish back to the net.
Choose olive if your rivers have sculpins. Black works great on highly stained water and the brown like many baitfish found on the west coast. Frankly, all 3 colors work in California.
